Summer is winding down in General on Crone Chronicles

Have been spending a little time getting to know this computer - quite a change from the one I was using. This keyboard suits me just fine, it is small and I love the feel.  Not sure how I feel about Vista yet - haven't used it enough to make a judgement.

I must say the record rainfalls we've been having have given us beautiful green grass instead of the usual burnt August brown.  Before we know it the EX will be on and that's a sure sign of summer's end.  I am starting to get that usual back to school urge - it's WalMart's fault they had a big display when I went in there the other day.  Now find myself wanting to look through course outlines and wanting to sign up.  The urge will pass as it does every year. ^ TOP

The Creep in Taking it off! on The Evolving Dad

Last week was my annual physical, I 'm still not used to having a doctor let alone going regularly. The doctor did her thing and everything is fine, Though there was one area of concern. It's something I've been trying to do something about for a while, my weight. In the year between visits I've put on close to 15 pounds. My doctor called it the creep.

So what am I going to do about it. Thats the question that has been asking myself since the appoint ment. The first thing I did was start a food diary, Its supposed to help. I haven't been perfect but I'm getting better. The biggest food concerns I have are, I like to snack. I eat when I'm bored. This isn't good , I need to do that less and when I do I need to pick better choices. The second is Eating Melissa's food. I've alway picked over her left overs but now that she's pregnant and feeling sick there is alot more food to pick from. Of course she tries to stop me, but I usually manage to get some.

Moving forward I have to stop using the excuse that my work out routine will start when I get the Wii Fit. I haven't been able to find one anywhere in Toronto and to be honest I haven't been trying to hard. Also I used my Wii Fit budget on getting Guitar Hero. So if the Wii is going to be part of my routine it will be limited to Wii sports. This is fine I just have to be constant. I also have to get back on my bicycle. I started out the summer riding my bike 2 or 3 times a week, but then the record breaking rain fall came and has kept me off the bike. I'm hoping we'll have a drier August and I will manage to do alot more riding.

Some fun at the splash pad. in General on The Evolving Dad

Some fun at the splash pad., originally uploaded by MRJ_Pics.

After a lazy morning around the house I decided to take Jacob out for some fun at the splash pad near our house. He loves running in and out of the water. It's such innocent fun.

It's a ....... in General on Crone Chronicles

Yesterday we welcomed a new addition to the family - a new laptop.  Without the encouragement of my son Michael and his partner Melissa, I could not have done it.  They stood by my side, coached and supported me, as I laboured through the process of spending  so much mondey on myself.  After driving us all home, Michael did all the procedures necessary for a newly aquired computer.

Yes, I know, I am getting abit carried away with the baby comparisons,  that's because Michael and Melissa have announced they are pregnant.  Jacob will have a baby sister or brother in Jan. 2009.  I do have a bias - I want it to be a girl.

So Melissa and Michael, Here is my offical congratulatios as well as my gratitude for letting me be a part of your lives.

While I'm in this state of thanksgiving, I want to add that my eldest grandchild, Dianna, has spent a great deal of time with me this summer - It has been a joy.  So thanks Rose for letting her come here and thanks Dianna for being a great house guset.

Ok now i'm finished with the sappy stuff . ^ TOP

Trying to Sleep in... in Fatherhood on The Evolving Dad

Saturday morning Jacob went with his Nana and Papa up to Wasaga Beach for the weekend, leaving Melissa and I alone for 3 days and 2 nights. It's the longest time either of us has spent away from Jacob. It's a mixed bag of emotions, on one hand I miss the little guy, on the other it's nice to not have to worry about what he's getting into while he is out of sight. The biggest benifit I was looking forward to was being able to sleep in. Not having Jacob comming in to our bedroom at 6:30 saying 'Getup Daddy'.

On the first day I managed to sleep in till 10:30ish, before Melissa decided that I had enough sleep. Today I couldn't get past 8am. It helps that I wasn't up till 3 watching movies last night, but still it would seem gone are the days of sleeping till 3 in the afternoon, with or without Jacob around.

It helps that we can do video chat with him so we got to see him a couple of times. Still it will be nice when he`s back home later today. I miss the little guy, but from our vvideo chats with him he seems to have been having a great time.

Of course I had big plans for this weekend. A long list things to do around the house. We started out great on monday, knocked off a few big items off the list but then I started feeling sick, and Sunday couldn`t get going. Then while Melissa was at work she started coming down with the same bug as me. So I`m nost sure how much more of the list we`ll get to today. ^ TOP

Getting into Focus in General on The Evolving Dad

A new month, a new focus. Today is the first of the month and today I start the new me. Things that I've been thinking about doing will get done. When I make a list of things I need to do I will do it Instead of filling it for later. I want to get more order in my life and now's the time to do it.

It will start this weekend when Jacob goes to Wassaga with his Nana and Papa. With Melissa working afternoons I will have plenty of time to work on some of the project around the house I have been putting off. Things like rearranging Jacob's room. Finding a proper home for our new scanner/printer. I'm also hopping to tackle some of the clutter on our Balcony, it's going to be a full weekend.

Another one of the projects is my blog. Over the last month I've started to feel a natrual rythem with my post, I just need to iron out some details and I should be able to maintain it the way I've wanted to from the beging. To help iron out the details I have some questions for my readers. Please leave your responces in the comments:
  1. When do you read my blog?
  2. What time is a good time to post?
  3. Do you like post in the morning or evening?
  4. Do you preference the posts being posted at the same time every day?
  5. Do you read back posts?
  6. Do you read Melissa's blog (mamamelissa.com)?
  7. If yes do you mind use posting on the same event or the same pictures?

Thanks in advance for your feedback. ^ TOP

Our Vaction Abridged. in Fatherhood on The Evolving Dad

For the last week and a half I've wanted to write about our mini vacation but I haven't found the time. Today I'm going to do two things one is make the time , the second is lower my goals. Instead of being a long write up I'm going to use pictures.

Our trip out of town started with breakfast at the Dice before picking up the trailer and heading out of town. We took to vehicals Lynn and Dan drove the truck and pulled the trailer and Melissa Jacob and I followed in the car.

The drive was long but uneventful. We only stopped a couple of times one for groceries the other for lunch. Jacob was great we didn't have any problems with him. Of course we had the portable DVD player and his Toopy and Benoo DVD so when he seemed to have had enough of the drive we let him watch that.

The campsite we went to was in Mercer Pensilviana, about 5 minutes from were Melissa and I stayed last fall. This was the first time I 've gone park camping and I have to say it is alot simpler then what I'm used to.

One of the best things about our site was How close it was to the playground. We could sit in our lawn chairs and watch while Jacob ran around and had fun.

Just beyond the playground was the pool, a great place to get out of the heat. Jacob loved it. With his life Jacket onhe was able to smile the width of the pool a number of times. Of course Jacob wasn't the only one to enjoy having a pool so close.

We had to full days at the park Friday and Saturday and apart from a could of shopping excursions and one dinner we spent it in the camp.

The only rain we had was around 6am on the day we were leaving, most things were already packed so it wasn't to much of a hassel. We were luck it stopped before we began packing up the last of our things, but the playground was wet and so we couldn't let Jacob play in the park one last time. Once we were packed up it was to Breafast at Kings Family Resturant, where Melissa and I eat almost every meal last fall and then the long drive home.

It's strange how the drive home seems faster then the drive out. We had just one stop to strech our legs and get some food. And though we saw signs advising of a up to 30 minute wait at the border we seemed to just breeze right through. It was a great vacation, I just wish it was longer.

Post Vacation Update in General on The Evolving Dad

I would like to start todays post by apologizing for the resent downtime at guetterman.com, it seems our hosts apache server was corrupted and needed to be rebuilt. Of course it had to happen while I was camping and only connected to the Internet occasional.

I had hoped to come back from my vacation recharged and ready to go. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. The vacation was great and I found it very relaxing, but it was not long enough, the biggest mistake I think was getting back on the Sunday, I needed a day to gear up for work. It probably wouldn't have been as much of a problem if I had prepared a little better before we went away and if I didn't come back to a dead desktop.
I was able to restore my system to factory settings without loosing to much data but I still have to re-install all my applications and try and recover some of the data the restore deleted. It's looking good but it will take up a lot of my free time for the next couple of days, putting other things on the back burner like launching Guetterman Hosting. I'm also working on my recap of the camping trip for posting in the next couple of days. I've got some great pictures to share.

That's all I have time for now, I hope to have more soon. ^ TOP
