It's Official I'm obese!!!! in Taking it off! on The Evolving Dad
Yesterday I did what I thought I'd have to wait for Christmas to do, I tried the Wii fit. Melissa picked it up for me yesterday with her Income tax return money. So now I have a exercise routine, complete with built in tracking. When you start Wii Fit it gets you to register a player, you enter your height and age, then it measures your weight and balance. From that you get your BMI(Body Mass Index) and a Wii Fit Age.My BMI is 35.27 and I have a Wii Fit age of 51. Both of numbers are to high for me. After it determines all that it asks you to set a goal for your self. it limits the goals to manageable chucks and spaces them over weeks and months. It also seems to allow you to adjust your goals every to weeks. My initial goal is 22 pounds in 3 months, which works out ti 3.66 every two weeks. I hope to loose more then that, but to start I wanted a reachable goal, I plan on revisiting that in 2 weeks.
As for the Work outs themselves they are simple and fun. There are 4 types of exercises Yoga, Strength Training, Aerobics and Balance games. You start with a limited number in each and you unlock more as you go through the different ones. I tried most of the ones available to me and found then fun and challenging. As I use the Wii Fit more I will do write ups about the different Activities, perhaps they will accompany my weekly updates, giving me something to write about every Thursday.
I plan on doing my workouts in the evening after Jacob's in bed so, it works out great for my Thursday posts. So stay tuned..... ^ TOP

^ TOPThere is REAL beer at ball parks in the United States in General on Tom's Ostentatious Sports Blog
Colin wrote “I trust you're using the term 'beer' advisedly, unless they have a contract with a micro-brewery” with respect to my last post about PNC Park.In fact PNC Park does offer micro-brews. I had a couple Yuengling and a couple beers from the Pennsylvania Brewing Company. I am not sure if Yuengling qualifies as micro, but the Penn Brewery sure does. Also, when I was at Progressive Field in Cleveland, I had a couple of Great Lakes Brewing Co. beers. To the best of my knowledge the Rogers Centre does not offer micro-brews. This seems especially odd when you consider that the Steamwhistle Brewery is so close they could just pipe the beer directly into the stadium. No Steamwhistle, no Mill Street, no Saint Andre, etc.
Why does a Canadian have to go to the United States to get a decent beer at a ball park? ^ TOP

After sending the last picture, I realised it wasn't a very good picture. So here is a better one.

^ TOPExtra cheese at PNC Park in General on Tom's Ostentatious Sports Blog
I am back from a baseball road trip to Pittsburgh and Cleveland. My seat at PNC park was not great but the beauty of the ball park itself more than made up for my slightly obstructed view. The open old school style stadium provides a wonderful view of Pittsburgh’s downtown core and the Roberto Clemente Bridge:PNC provides a far superior fan experience than Toronto’s Rogers Centre, and I write this having had some great experiences at the Rogers Centre (seeing Carlos Delgado hit four home runs in a single game, for example). Not only is PNC aesthetically pleasing, it is also pleasing to other senses such as taste and smell. I ate dinner at Manny’s BBQ located behind centrefield. That would be legendary Pirates catcher Manny Sanguillen, I also got Manny’s autograph. Not only was Manny a great hitting catcher, he also makes some damn fine pulled pork and beans.
After a few cups of Pennsylvanian beer and several innings of the New York Mets’ Pedro Martinez cutting through Pirate batters, I was ready for some more chow. So I got me some nachos and cheese. At the Rogers Centre, when you get nachos and cheese, you are given a plastic container of nachos and thimble of melted cheese. At the PNC Park they literally poured it on, there was more cheese than nachos, that has never happened to me before. A veritable coronary delight:
Stay tuned for more on PNC Park and on my visit to Progressive Field in Cleveland. ^ TOP
Correction in General on Crone Chronicles
Should not write when I am so tired - worked all night and up all day.In my last entry I wrote "pare" of skates instead of Pair of skates - I guess if I had used spell check it would not have registered as a mistake since it is a "real" word.

The Ex has started Summer is ending in General on Crone Chronicles
Only two more weeks of work before my vacation time off in Sept. I am badly in need of the time off. Still not sure where I will go - only sure that I want to get out of town. Hope to catch a Jay's game and perhaps the Argos. Yes it is possible to totally enjoy ballet and classical music and still enjoy baseball, football and hockey (which used to be tied with baseball but moved to the bottom of the list last fall).I am looking forward to seeing my two year old grandson in his first pare of skates this winter - his popa (Melissa's stepdad) will be taking the little one to the rink and teaching him to skate - should be worth hundreds of pictures taken by the proud parents.

Software I use: Hamachi in General on The Evolving Dad
For a few years now I've been using Hamachi for connecting between my home computer and my work computer. It is easy to use and simple to install. Best of all it was free. When you install Hamachi in adds a virtual network adepter that connects to networks that you control through it's simple interface. This allows two computers to act like they are on the same network across the Internet. The connection is fully encrypted and secure. It works trough most routers out of the box which is a big plus. When I went to the site to day I leaned that Hamachi has changed it licencing model, I've been expecting changes since it was bought by LogMeIn. Of course considering they bought it in 2006 it's taken a while for them to change anything. Hamachi's original model was a Free / Premium model, where you pay for extra features, like more connections on your network, or being able to run it as a service. The biggest feature I always coveted was Web Proxy support, allowing you to use your secure VPN connection for Internet access when surfing on an insecure wireless hots spot. Of course my days of surfing in coffee shops are mostly behind me so it's not that important a feature for me.
The new licencing model is a Commercial / Non-Commercial one. Meaning for individuals it's free but if your a company you have to pay. I have mixed feelings about the new model, first is that I was using hamachi in a couple of Work related roles. If I plan on continuing to use it I will have to purchase a licence. Of course the change has also unlocked some premium features. Running as a service is now supported in the free version. I'm not sure if the Web Proxy is supported or not, but still over all it looks like a reasonable change. ^ TOP
Poor scalpers in General on Tom's Ostentatious Sports Blog
Apparently Toronto’s scalpers had a rough night selling tickets for the National Football League exhibition game in Toronto last night. A small consortium of Toronto businessmen have basically purchased eight Buffalo Bills games over the next five seasons and those games will be played at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. In order to generate in interest for the first game, an exhibition tilt against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a number of tickets were given away. The tickets are horribly overpriced, the cheapest seats are apparent $70 a pop. Ticket prices were also slashed leading up to the game. This morning’s Toronto Star reports that scalpers were losing money and selling tickets with a face value of $550 for $100. Why did scalpers think that tickets to an exhibition game would be in high demand? The reported attendance was about 48,000, not a sell out. If they did not sell out the first exhibition game, how well are they going to do with these ludicrous ticket prices for next exhibition games? Especially once the novelty has worn off.

The Olympics suck in General on Tom's Ostentatious Sports Blog
I haven’t been able to get to watch the sports that I am interested in. Namely baseball.Canada has only played one game, a 10-0 win over China, but the game started at 11:30 pm local time, a little too late for me for a weeknight. I woke up at 6 am this morning to watch Canada’s game against defending champion Cuba, only to discover the game was postponed due to rain. By the time the game starts I will have to leave for work, grrrr…
Canada’s next scheduled baseball game is Friday at 6 pm against Korea and the game after that is Saturday at 10:30 am against the United States. Math is not one of my strengths, but since Beijing is exactly 12 hours ahead of my local time I know that Canada’s next two games will be at 6 am and 10:30 pm my local time tomorrow. I can also easily count the number of medals Canada has won so far. Zero.

Dr. Horrible (Updated) in General on The Evolving Dad
Update: It would seem that Hulu doesn't want to share the video with Canada and the rest of the world anymore.... I'll leave the post up for any US visitors and hope that it's only temporary that the rest of the world can't watch it.I'm not usually one to post other peoples video's into my blog, but I can't resist sharing this. Joss Whedon's made-for-the-Web show, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog,". It should be availible for watching for the next couple of months.
First I have to say I love the story, and it just build excitement for his new tv show Dollhouse.
The other thing it drives home for me is how good Hulu is, and how cool it would be if we had access with it here in the great white north. ^ TOP
Home sick in General on Crone Chronicles
Scheduled to work tonight but had to call in sick.. My body refuses to sleep because it has been conditioned to be awake at night for work. My crazy work/sleep patterns must confuse the hell out of my body. ,Tomorrow promises to be a busy day but I must schedule time for rest to be well enough to work my next shift. Luckily I have two weeks of vacation booked at the beginning of Sept - it would really suck to be sick when I'm off.
This summer I have enjoyed the company of my grandchildren - a teenager and a two year old. They give me the gift of seeing the world through younger eyes and prevent me from getting stodgey. They give me lots of love
